Guzmania is a striking plant, very popular for adding vibrant colour and texture to tropical-themed gardens or living interior décor in homes and work spaces.

It is believed that is was named in honour of the Spanish naturalist and explorer Anastasio Guzman who lived in the 18th century.

The Guzmania is native to Central and South America and it absorbs water and nutrients mostly through specialized structures on its leaves, called trichomes.

The bracts can be red, orange, yellow or pink and these plants are wonderful for anyone looking to add a touch of tropical, long-lasting colour to their living space.

Caring for Guzmania plants involves providing the right growing conditions and following a few essential care guidelines. Here are some tips to help you care for your Guzmania:

Guzmania plants prefer bright, indirect light. Place them near a window with filtered sunlight or in a well-lit area indoors. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.

They also appreciate high humidity levels. If the air in your home is dry, you can increase humidity by placing the plant on a tray filled with water and pebbles or by using a humidifier.

Guzmania plants have a rosette of leaves that forms a central cup, known as a tank, which holds water. Keep the tank filled with water at all times, but ensure that it doesn't overflow. It's important to flush out and refill the tank regularly to prevent stagnation and the growth of bacteria. In addition to watering the tank, mist the leaves occasionally to maintain humidity. Use filtered or distilled water, as Guzmania plants are sensitive to chemicals found in tap water.

Guzmania plants thrive in warm temperatures between 21-27°C during the day and slightly cooler temperatures at night.
